Domino: 8.5.1 XPages Bug in Document Data Source

There is a bug in the 8.5.1 Domino Designer which I ran into last night which was frustrating, but which has a very simple fix. The problem is encountered when you try to add a “Domino Document” data source to an XPage. Normally, after you add the data source (and have the data source selected as your context), in the “Data” tab in right sidebar you will see a list of all of the fields from the selected form. Well, for some forms, the field list was always empty. And it turns out that the forms which exhibited this problem were ones which were created in pre-8.5.1 versions of Domino Designer.

So, the solution is fairly simply – I just needed to edit each of the problem forms and re-save under Domino 8.5.1. This seems to clear the problem up immediately. If I then return to an XPage and add a Document data source with that same form, the fields are now all properly displayed in the Data tab in the right sidebar. Hopefully, this post helps someone else who encounters the same problem.
